We have been to Majestic Colonial and are visiting the Grand Bavaro for the 3rd time soon. While both resorts were very nice..the food was far better at the Grand. If anything, I have the Palladium Palace on my list to visit at Christmas. I know that the beach there is super nice and the resort looks very nice with access to other sections.
Sunfun: After reading a lot of reviews I would go for the Elegance over Colonial (even if you are booking the Club at either) because the beach area looks nicer …They share the same general beach area so it won't be much different except that the CC has plenty of palapas and shade - not sure about Elegance. Rooms are a solid concrete construction and are quiet except if someone drags a chair across the floor above or below. You don't hear conversations.The Splash is located behind the Royalton Punta Cana. A shuttle is provided to bring you to the beach area. The Elegance is slightly more elegant but the Colonial has more of a family vibe. They are next to each other, so the beach is the same. Both are lush and tropical as well as compact.

The Majestic Mirage is known as the quieter and calmer resort out of the 3 Majestics. It's adult oriented. 2 out of the 7 buildings are dedicated for families and the other 5 are adult only. The entire resort is club. Not many kids around the Mirage compared to the Elegance and especially the Colonial.
The Elegance does have more Club rooms and perks then the Colonial Club, but otherwise we like both and in fact there are things we like better about each. Post #1 - I don't think Coolist stayed at the Colonial just the Elegance and Mirage.
