My ELVUI pet bar for abilites has no actual buttons/actions on it, it is just a gray/black screen (if I change the number of buttons, or how many per row, it does change the size to match). Under the general options for Unit Frames, there should be a Global Fade option that you can enable and then slide a bar for desired opacity. Then under each unit frame category, you can click Inherit Global Fade. This will cause Unit Frames to fade out to the set Global Fade opacity unless you are in Combat or have a Target.
