In more populated areas such as Gridania, Limsa or (nowadays) Wolf's Den there are constant chatter sounds due to heavy population but clipping is not present. Disabling ambient sounds in the settings removes the issue, but then I can't hear nature and it sucks. I'm running the game on DX11, WIN10. Switching to DX9 doesn't help.

This is the problem. When you start FFXIV, it detects the output device/Speaker and configures itself to use this. This isn't a problem if you are using a sound card like Creative's Sound Blaster.
