A burble is simply a small explosion, like in the engine cylinders, but timed in a way that sees the detonation in the exhaust tract. If timed too late the cats can be hurt. My old NA Miata started burbling when the exhaust rusted through before the muffler and my SS really burbles with the j-pipes I replaced the mufflers with.
