The helicopter currently doesn't seem to be functioning properly. Either in SP or MP, it doesn't seem to be attracting zombies much at all. The zombies you drew there were from firing your gun, not from the helicopter. Nope, the area was cleared. The helicopter did cause them to wander this way.

Lots of zombies will still come, but you might have the scenario of also having them all drawn away. The moment the heli sees you, it will flyover directly over you for a long while.If you are outside during the helicopter event, the sound it produces will be pinpointed at you. So zombies will chase you specifically like it's personal for them.
